It is an American musical drama centered on Lucious Lyon. He was a former drug dealer but later became a household name in the world of music. Lyon is the head of Empire Entertainment which is the biggest and most successful music business. 

But, Lucious discovers he will be dying soon due to an unspecified medical condition. So, he must select the ideal successor to the dynasty he built after his death. The story revolves around issues such as the mental state, dysfunctional families and amyotrophic lateral syndrome (ALS), and the length to which people pursue their goals.

Lucious’s partner Cookie Lyon was released after 17 years in prison, is planning to assume control of her husband’s company and manage her sons. Thus, all family members will fight to fight Excel Entertainment. Andre always wanted to conquer the empire of his father. In order to become the throne holder of Empire Entertainment, he even creates his own Lyon Dynasty along with his mother and brother Hakeem.

However, Andre is later re-admitted back to Empire Entertainment and Lucious eventually decides to make Andre the head of the company’s sister, Gutter Life Records. While Jamal who was considered as the white lamb of the group was Lucious’s successor at the close two seasons. 

Jamal even began his work as the interim CEO after Lucius was arrested. He was then hooked on painkillers to treat their Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which eventually led him to rehab. Jamal did not return for the final season, but it was reported that he was planning to travel towards London with his spouse and is planning to adopt a child.

Hakeem, who is the most loved son of Lucious aids his mom Cookie to create his own Lyon Music Label. At first, Hakeem didn’t have a positive relationship with his mother. However, as the story progressed, the relationship between mother and son grew. 

In addition, Hakeem tied the knot with his girlfriend Maya. In contrast, Cookie created her own company called the Lyon Music Label to compete against her husband’s Emire Entertainment. However, later on in the show, she permitted Empire to purchase the company. So, she became Co-CEO at Empire Entertainment.

What To Expect From The Spin-Off Series?

Lee Daniels and Danny Strong said that the spin-off will be centered around Loretha “Cookie” Lyon. Absolutely, Taraji. Henson’s role is among the most loved by fans. There are many mysteries surrounding her character. So, it would be wonderful to see a spin-off show based on her character. 

Cookie was in prison for 17 years because of her role with drugs. But her husband and she were involved in the illegal business but she was the sole one to punishment for the crime. So, she believes her imprisonment was a choice she made for her husband, and to allow him to establish their dream business, Empire Entertainment, while she is in prison.

After reentering the jail, Cookie plans to take the company of her husband in the event that Lucious was getting close to his inevitable death. Also, Cookie would like to get her family back together. 

She later quits Empire Entertainment to start her own label, Lyon Dynasty. In the end, the Empire buys Cookie’s business, but she then becomes the co-CEO of Empire Entertainment. 

This means that we can expect the spin-off show to depict the daily life of Cookie. As in her earlier days in which she was involved in drug deals with her husband. Then her imprisonment. 

The show may show unspoken aspects of Taraji P’s character. At present, these are speculations. So, we must keep an eye on any official announcement or trailer to be released.

The rumored spin-off show will be centered around Loretha “Cookie” Lyon. We can therefore expect the highly skilled American actor, Taraji P. Henson to take on the role she played in the first season.

In reality, Jussie Smollett might not reprise his role as Jamal Lyon. In addition, he was not in Season Five’s final two episodes. He also did not make an appearance in the sixth season.
