In the movie Godzilla vs. Kong, after several rounds of amazing fights between the monsters, Godzilla let the Hollow Earth King Kong live. Even though Godzilla was the clear winner of the last battle, no one can deny that Kong was a very strong opponent for the lizard.
Even though they were both competing to be the King of the Monsters, Godzilla and Kong found a way to work together at the end to defeat Mechagodzilla, a monster they both hated.
And to do that, they had to use Kong’s Battle Ax, which was maybe the most important prop in Godzilla vs. Kong.
It was such a tough axe that even Godzilla had trouble with it. Not only that, but the axe is also the only thing that can kill Mechagodzilla.
So how did Godzilla and Kong use this mysterious weapon against their enemy and call a truce? Let’s find out!
What Is It Made Of?
The colour of the spikes is the first clue to what the axe is made of.
They are the same colour as the spikes on the giant lizard’s back.
The long end of the axe is made of bone, while the sharp spikes on the other end are, surprise, made of Godzilla’s own body.
Collider spoke with writer Max Bornstein, who told us more about the axe:
The axe is made from the dorsal spikes of one of Godzilla’s ancestors, so it can store and hold radiation.
And since Bornstein says that Kongs can make weapons, let’s talk about who in the movie could have made Kong’s axe.
Who Made the Ax?
The fact that Kong is holding the axe suggests that he or one of his ancestors used the dorsal spikes on the bone to make the axe, which shows how Kong’s dexterity keeps getting better.
Also, this isn’t the first time a Kong and Godzilla have fought, so it’s likely that one of the Kongs before this one tore off a Godzilla’s dorsal plate during a fight.

This could have happened during the war between the Titans thousands of years ago, and one of the Titans’ bones could have been used to make a hilt.
In the movie, Kong is trying to get back to his home in Hollow Earth.
On his way, he finds a crude weapon buried in the ground.
Later, when he goes into the fortress’s great hall, he finds a hole in the ground that looks like an axe.
When Kong puts the axe in the hole, the axe lights up and the whole hall gets bright.
Kong’s reaction to the weapon shows that it was likely made by one or more of his ancestors.
But it doesn’t end there. The monkey temple is also made of dorsal fins, just like the axe.
This makes me wonder: Could the Kong species have won against the Godzilla species in the Titan war that happened a long time ago?

What Can the Ax Do?
The people who made the movie wanted Kong to be on the same level as Godzilla, so they gave him this new weapon.
Gojipedia says that the axe can absorb and even store Godzilla’s atomic breath as well as other types of radiation.
The axe was Kong’s best chance to beat Godzilla and become the alpha Titan himself, so it’s clear that it’s a very powerful tool.
It looks like the axe might need both Kong and Godzilla to reach its full potential. How do you ask? Let’s discuss that.
Is the Ax More Powerful than Godzilla?
From the movie, we know that Godzilla’s radiations charge up the axe, making it very dangerous.
During the second battle, Godzilla was able to beat Kong and take away his weapons.
Would the axe have been enough to kill the giant lizard if Kong hadn’t been taken away his weapons?
Not only that, but the axe also kept Godzilla’s atomic breath from hurting Kong during the fight.

But the weapon has something else that makes it even more interesting.
Since even Kong could tell it was familiar when he was in his ancestral fortress in the Hollow Earth, the weapon is a mix of these two monsters that can’t be defeated.
It’s possible that not just one but two Titans made it.
At the end of the movie, when Kong and Godzilla work together to fight Mechagodzilla, this is shown to be true.
Kong uses the axe to fight Mechagodzilla, but it has lost so much energy that it doesn’t do much.
So, when Godzilla shoots his atomic breath at the axe, it gets just the right amount of power to kill Mechagodzilla.
So, in the end, the axe is what brings the two titan monsters together and helps them call a truce so they can go back to their own realms.
