Outer Banks Season 3 Release Date, Plot, & Cast

Created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, Netflix’s mystery teen drama ‘Outer Banks’ follows a group of working-class local teenagers in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, who are referred to as the Pogues.

The show follows the teens as they investigate the disappearance of John B’s father by going on a treasure hunt.

As the Pogues fight a stark economic divide in the region with the presence of the wealthy seasonal residents, John B’s father Big John gets lost in the pursuit of the treasure, only for his son and friends to get swayed in the same path.

The April 15, 2020 release of “Outer Banks” was well-received by critics, who praised the film’s beautiful cinematography and tense storytelling.

The social commentary which explores the economical and societal divide present in the Banks was also appreciated.

The second season of the show ends with astounding revelations and raises more questions regarding the disappearance of Big John.

While viewers are still scratching their heads over the events of the season two finale, we’ve compiled everything we know about the upcoming third season of “Outer Banks.”

Outer Banks Season 3 Release Date

Season 2 of ‘Outer Banks’ premiered on Netflix on July 30, 2021. The second season comprises ten episodes with a runtime of between 42-61 minutes each. As far as the third season is concerned, here’s what we know!

As of yet, ‘Outer Banks’ has not been renewed for a third season by Netflix.

However, it is very likely that the show will see a third season renewal considering the impressive numbers it recorded after its premiere in 2020.

By the first half of 2020, the show had already surpassed some of the streaming service’s larger productions in terms of viewership, as reported by Forbes.

The third season renewal was also indicated by the creators of the show upon the second season finale.

In an interview given to EW, the creators talked about what can be expected from a third season with Shannon Burke warning “I’m not sure if we should be talking about this yet.

” For Season 3, “we want to have a little more room for like our teen drama and teen romances,” Burke said.

And so the treasure hunt is going to expand, and the mythology surrounding the treasure hunt is going to evolve and get deeper,” Josh Pate added, joining Shannon Burke.

Expansion of that mythology is one of the things we’re most looking forward to in Season 3.

Since the showrunners have a strategy in place for Season 3, we can hold out hope that the renewal and subsequent production works will soon follow.

If all goes well, season 3 of “Outer Banks” will premiere in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Outer Banks Season 3 Cast: Who can be in it?

The majority of the original cast members are expected to return for season 3 of ‘Outer Banks,’ including Chase Stokes as John B, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara “Kie” Carrera, Jonathan Daviss as Pope, Rudy Pankow as JJ, Charles Esten as Ward Cameron, and Drew Starkey as Rafe Cameron.

Given the events of the season 2 finale, Charles Halford’s Big John character will likely appear in future episodes. Austin North is also expected for the third season as Topper.

Elizabeth Mitchell (Carla Limbrey), Carlacia Grant (Cleo), Caroline Arapoglou (Rose), Cullen Moss (Deputy Shoupe), E. Roger Mitchell (Heyward), and Samantha Soule (Anna Carrera), and Gary Weeks (Luke) are all confirmed to return for season three.

The fate of Jesse C. Boyd’s character, Renfield, is decided at the end of season 2.

Outer Banks Season 3 Plot: What can it be About?

The second season finale of ‘Outer Banks features a confusing showdown.

Ward tells Sarah that he is still alive and that he faked his death to keep his family safe.

On the other hand, Sarah and John B are aided in their mission to steal back the Cross of Saint Domingo from the Camerons by John B’s pals.

The ensuing mayhem leaves the Pogues adrift on a desert island. Season 2’s big reveal is that Big John is still alive and communicating with Carla from Barbados.

Season three should kick off with the Pogues making their escape from the island and continuing their treasure hunt.

In their pursuit to reclaim the gold and the cross, they may come face to face with the Camerons, the outcomes of which should prove to be quite intriguing. Now that Big John is still around, the treasure hunt can take a new turn, and the teens may be able to help.

The creators have promised that the mystery surrounding the treasure will deepen in the upcoming third season.

Some teen romance may also develop as the adventure progresses. What might be in store was discussed by Josh Pate in the aforementioned EW interview.

We’re well aware of the fans’ feelings toward JJ and Ki, but we still wanted to delve into the Ki-Pope dynamic. It was our intention to leave that as a cliffhanger for Season 3.

Like the audience’s reaction to JJ and Kiara and rooting for that romance, “we didn’t want to do it immediately, but we definitely want to do it just because that took us by surprise,” Josh said.

It’s safe to assume that the Pogues’ third outing will be just as entertaining as the first two.
