Developed by series director Hiroko Utsumi (‘Banana Fish’) in collaboration with Studio Bones (My Hero Academia), ‘SK8 the Infinity’ (stylized ‘SK∞’) or ‘Esu Kē Eito’ is a shounen sports anime about skateboarding.
The show also depicts the thriving subculture around the action sport in Okinawa.
The story revolves around energetic and lively Reki Kyan and quiet and serious Langa Hasegawa.
They hit it off immediately after Reki introduces Langa to skateboarding.
Having grown up snowboarding in the mountains of Canada, Langa starts to incorporate those skills into skating, quickly becoming one of the best local skaters.
Since its premiere, the anime has garnered a large audience due to its stunning animation, relatable characters, and jaw-dropping skateboarding sequences.
If you have watched ‘SK8 the Infinity’ season 1 in its entirety and are curious about what’s in store for the audience in season 2, here is what we know.
SK8 the Infinity Season 2 Release Date
The first season of “SK8 the Infinity” started on January 10, 2021, and ran for 12 episodes until April 4, 2021. Ichirou Ookouchi was the main person who wrote the script.
The music was made by Ryo Takahashi, and Michinori Chiba designed the characters. Rude- sang “Paradise,” which was the opening theme, and “Infinity,” which was the ending theme.
Studio Bones reportedly had a lot of trouble putting together the first season. They hired a small group of people to work on the project and then asked them to do several things at once.
Soon, the studio realized that they wouldn’t be able to meet their deadlines. In a panic, they called their subsidiaries for help.
This is something that happens a lot in the anime industry, especially with original shows like “SK8 the Infinity” and “Wonder Egg Priority.”
This is why most originals don’t last more than one season. Anime like “Cowboy Bebop” and “Code Geass” are great exceptions to this rule.
Still, if there’s one studio that can get through it and make another season of “SK8 the Infinity,” it’s Bones.
Aside from “My Hero Academia,” they have also made “Bungo Stray Dogs” and “Mob Psycho 100” for more than one season in the past few years.
The first season of “SK8 the Infinity” has been very well received by both viewers and critics. Most likely, it will be hard to get Utsumi to come back for the second season.
She is one of the best series directors and animators working today, but she has rarely worked on more than one season of the same project in any role.
Again, though, if any studio can change this, it’s Bones. If the producers decide to make a second season of “SK8 the Infinity” within the next year, you can expect it to come out sometime in 2023.
SK8 the Infinity Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?
In the last episode of season 1, Langa beats Adam and wins the tournament. He also reminds Adam why he started skating in the first place.
At the end of the episode, Reki, Cherry, Joe, and the rest of the group gather on the Dope Sketch rooftop to celebrate Langa’s victory.
Reki’s sister, Koyomi, has also started skating. When Shadow finds out that the florist has a boyfriend, it breaks his heart.
Miya starts to see his friends again. In the last scene of the first season, after the credits, Kiriko is sent back to Tokyo.
Adam has put all of the blame for corruption on Representative Takano, it turns out.
Adam tells Tadashi that he will be his dog for the rest of their lives when Tadashi asks why he didn’t sell him.
Langa, Reki, and the others might go to Tokyo in season 2 and skate with the people there. Reki and Langa might take a trip to the mountains to learn how to snowboard.
Koyomi could show that she is a very good skater. In the next season, there could also be other women who skate. Kiriko might come back and keep looking into things.
