What is the 5150 Gang of Riverside? Does it Still Exist?

Why Did You Kill Me? is an authentic crime documentary on Netflix that focuses on the murder of Crystal Theobald as a result of violent gang violence. Crystal was killed in her neighbourhood in the neighbourhood of Julio Heredia after the gang leader mistakenly believed that Crystal, as well as the other people in the vehicle they were in, were part of the gang 5150. The gang 5150 that Julio was part of was also mentioned in the movie.

Many believe that the name refers to the law enforcement code of conduct for individuals who are unhinged and pose an affront to society or to themselves. According to certain sources, “5150” is kind of like a code for gangs that means those who are “willing to put their life on the line.” If you want to know more about the gang and whether or not they’re still operating and posing a danger to the community, we’ve got you covered.

What is the 5150?

The 5150, also known as the 5150, also known as Mexican Royalty, is a violent gang that hails from the La Sierra neighbourhood in Riverside, California. As we have learned, at some point in time, two rival groups, the 5150 and the Mexican Royalty, actually joined forces, as per the testimony in a court of an expert on gangs.

Additionally, Detective Rick Wheeler, who was responsible for investigating the Crystal Theobald case, was able to confirm that the 5150 began becoming problematic around the year 2003.

Street gangs were violent and aggressive. They were involved in a range of offences, including shootings, assaults and killing people in the first two or three years. The members of the gang viewed the situation as one big family.

In the film, Mario, an ex-member, states that to the gang, they were family members who looked out for one another. He did not expect society to view them as killers.

There were a lot of members who were children, with a few that were still in school. Abuse or poverty and abuse are common causes for children who are part of a group, and the majority of the youngsters were victims of both.

Julio Heredia, the shooter, was also from a family in which his mother was a fan of the use of alcohol and other drugs. It began when some of the more senior members of the gang gave him drugs. That eventually led to his involvement in group-related activities.

Manuel “Tripper” Lemus also stated something similar. An ex-member of the 5150, who testified during Julio’s trial, spoke about his experiences during the time he was a member when he was younger.

He claimed that he joined the gang as a young man and that the gangs would search for pupils from schools, too. He also stated that at one of their parties at his home, the gang offered him beer and marijuana, which he accepted in order to join the gang.

Does the 5150 Still Exist?

There’s not much information about their current activities and existence. We did discover that in June 2016, Anthony Razo, who was thought to be involved with members of the La Sierra Brown Knights gang, was killed at his Riverside home, along with Terrance Q. Rodgers.

One of the individuals detained in the incident was Jacob Gamboa III, who was one of the former members of the gang 5150.

This means it is possible that the gang’s members are active, though it is impossible to say with absolute certainty. But, people who were members of the group at one time were without doubt impacted by the incident.

In the documentary, Manuel admits that they were involved in actions that gave him nightmares. The issue of gang violence, as well as street fights, are common, particularly within Riverside, California, a city that has a reputation for gang activity.

There was a brief respite in the month of August 2007 when police raided around 25-30 locations associated with gangs and multiple arrests were made. Since then, Riverside’s law enforcement personnel have been extremely vigilant in tackling gang-related activity such as weapons and narcotics.

It has stopped a myriad of crimes due to it. Through programmes such as “Block Buster” and “Urgent Fury,” several arrests have taken place.

In addition, the police from the Riverside Sheriff’s department’s Gang Task Force has consistently been working towards eradicating gang violence in recent times by making arrests and performing search warrants in connection with drugs and gangs.
