Who Is Tamika Pratt in All American?

“All American” is an American sports-themed television show that is known for its focus on the lives of black young people. The show was designed around the actual story of Spencer Paysinger, a professional American footballer.

The show is now in the third year of its run and has already set the internet on fire with discussions regarding the eleventh episode.

The episode is titled “The Bigger Picture.” The sports drama explores the relationships between police and the black community in the aftermath of Tamika Pratt’s murder.

If you want to learn more about who Tamika will be and how she is affected by what she does with her, you’re in the right place!

Tamika Pratt, Who Is She in All American?

Tamika Pratt is a fictional young black woman who is shot down by police after she is discovered sleeping inside her vehicle. The main character of the show, Olivia, is particularly affected by this incident since her experience could have turned into the same as Tamika’s if she had not been Laura’s daughter.

Laura is a white woman and is the District Attorney for Los Angeles County. What strikes Olivia particularly hard is the difference with regards to the way she was treated and what Tamika got from the police.

You might remember that Olivia was involved in a car accident in episode 8 of season 3. Intoxicated, the police take her home after they discover the identity of her mother. But Tamika did not receive the same degree of mercy.

We discovered that the woman was also drunk but had decided to rest instead of driving. However, she is forced to lose her life because an officer shot her. Through her podcast, Olivia decides to discuss the injustices afflicted on Tamika, which eventually becomes the “Justice for Tamika movement.”

Following the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, several television shows were able to incorporate the Black Lives Matter movement, systematic racism, and police brutality into their stories.

But, you’d be shocked to learn that the show’s creator, Nkechi Okoro Carroll, presented Tamika Pratt’s storyline to writers in March of 2020, before that tragic Floyd incident that shocked the nation.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Carroll declared that they’d be sure to include the storyline as it was based on real fears of people who are real. As the mother of two young black males, Carroll poured her heart into the script.

She intended that by the time we reached this plot, the thing I’d be battling the most was that it would feel out-of-touch. But the eleventh episode came out at a crucial and emotional moment in the history of television because of the tensions within the USA.

On April 20th, 2021, a second black teenager, Ma’Khia Bryant, was shot dead by police officers in Columbus, Ohio. The shooting occurred just half an hour before Derek Chauvin was pronounced guilty in the courts of law for his murder. George Floyd

Carroll said, “It’s going to feel like I wrote it last week, and that breaks my heart because it means we haven’t made the forward movement that I was hoping for.” Episode 3 of the initial season also addressed relationships between black communities and the police when Spencer and Jordan were pulled over by the police in Beverly Hills.

In Tamika’s case, Carroll specifically wanted to highlight the experiences of an aspiring black female, given that police actions involving women do not receive the same attention as those involving black males do.

The show’s creator stated that it was expected that Tamika Pratt’s storyline would run over multiple episodes and include more characters. We know that Olivia releases the camera footage of Tamika’s murder via her mother’s laptop to ensure that the officer in charge of the girl’s death is prosecuted.

Naturally, this daring move by Olivia will result in grave consequences not only for Laura and Laura but also for the Baker family.
